At the APLE Collective, we believe that lasting change grows from the ground up when people with lived experience of poverty are not just heard, but truly valued and leading the conversation.

That’s why we’ve created Taking Voice Seriously– a hands-on toolkit designed to help organisations, services, and community groups move beyond tokenism and embed meaningful participation.

With a full 130-minute session packed with interactive activities, discussion prompts, and practical guidance, the toolkit supports you to listen deeply, reflect honestly, and take real action rooted in lived experience.

🌿 What Our Toolkit Features:

📖 Practical Activities – Thoughtfully designed exercises and prompts to help organisations reflect on how they centre lived experience in decision-making.

💬 Conversation Starters– Easy-to-use questions and discussion ideas to open up meaningful conversations about power, participation and whose voices get heard.

📝 Step-by-Step Guidance– A clear, accessible how-to use guide to support organisations of all sizes to take tangible actions towards embedding participation meaningfully.

📄 Downloadable Resources– Activity sheets, prompts, and reflection tools for in-person or online use.

🍏 Tiered Options for Engagement– From a free downloadable version to a printed package with bonus content, to in-person workshop delivery by APLE members themselves.

📚 Grounded in Lived Experience & Research– Developed by people with lived experience of poverty and socio-economic injustice, alongside a review of participation literature and good practice.

We know every person and organisation’s needs (and budgets) are different, so we’ve created three ways to access the toolkit. Think of them like apples from the same tree: all good, just at different stages of ripeness.
